WHAT IS BRONCHIAL ASTHMA AND ITS TREATMENT
Asthma is a chronic disease that is most often
manifested by periodic attacks of shortness of breath and wheezing. The
frequency and severity of these symptoms can vary. Attacks usually occur during
physical activity or at night.
Bronchial asthma can affect
people of all ages, but most often children and young people. Such trends are
the same in Ukraine and in other countries. The
Bronchial asthma develops as a
chronic inflammation of the airways, namely the bronchi, which leads to
increased sensitivity of nerve endings in the airways and their rapid
irritation. During an attack, the mucous membranes of the bronchioles enlarge,
causing the airways to narrow and a person to be unable to inhale or exhale
normally.
The asthma mortality rate is not
the highest in the chronic disease category. However, frequent asthma attacks
in most cases significantly impair the quality of life, because a person
suffers from insomnia, fatigue, low activity.
CAUSES OF
ASTHMA
Asthma is considered an incurable disease.
However, you can control the course of the disease and the symptoms. Scientists
have not yet been able to pinpoint the root causes of asthma. However, most
experts agree that genetic predisposition combined with external stimuli are
the most common risk factors for asthma.
The most common causes of
asthma:
Allergens. Patients suffering
from allergic rhinitis or atopic dermatitis have a 3-5 times higher risk of
developing asthma. Conversely, bronchial asthma can be triggered by allergies
to certain stimuli.
Hereditary predisposition.
Harmful working conditions: exposure to chemical irritants, especially in the
workplace.
Some medications. Aspirin, a
group of anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs, antihypertensive drugs
(beta-blockers) can also cause bronchial asthma.
Adiposity.
Factors that contribute to the
development of bronchial asthma are household allergens (dust and dust mites,
mold), pets (wool, feathers, saliva, etc.), cockroaches and household
chemicals.
Adverse weather conditions (cold
air), strong emotional (fear or anger) and exercise can cause worsening of
symptoms or the development of asthma complications.
PREVENTION OF BRONCHIAL ASTHMA
To reduce the risk of asthma,
keep the house clean - clean and ventilate the room regularly. Monitor the
level of dryness of the air in the house, if necessary, humidify and filter the
air with special devices.
TREATMENT OF BRONCHIAL ASTHMA
Asthma is a serious chronic disease, so it is
impossible to cure bronchial asthma at home in a week or a month. Early
treatment leads to stable remission, and taking basic drugs slows the
progression of the disease.
In USA, medicines for bronchial
asthma are available free of charge or with a small surcharge under the
Affordable Care Act. Seek your prescription from a doctor.
However, medication is not the only way to
fight asthma. It is also important to avoid possible risk factors for asthma -
irritants that cause inflammation of the airways. Everyone should be well
informed about this and know which risk factors are the most dangerous for
them.
Asthma is a disease that requires
medical supervision. It is dangerous to underestimate it. If you do not follow
a special treatment regimen, the consequences can be tragic.
